Madessie Thompson

June 1, 1926 — March 6, 2021

Madessie was born in El Dorado, AR on June 1, 1926.  She was the daughter of Frank Barnes and Jessie Inez Byas.   At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Savior and united with the Mt. Zion No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church in Urbana, AR, where she remained until she transitioned to a new home.

On July 21, 1941, she married Ollie Bell Thompson, who was in the U.S. Army and remained in this union until his death in 1992.  Occasionally, she had an opportunity to travel with him.  She often talked about some of the places and people she had an opportunity to see.  Madessie was ambitious and hard-working and truly loved and cared for her family.  Her favorite pastime was fishing.  She took a lot of pride in pulling them in.  Madessie worked for the Milams for many years and held a special place in her heart for John and his children.

Madessie went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at Oak Ridge Health & Rehab.  She is preceded in death by her parents; Five Sisters:  Ada Ruth Barnes, Ella Ruth Barnes Gilbert, Pauline Barnes Gaines, Nettie Mae Barnes McKibbins, and Costella Wallace Malone; One Son:  Homer E. Thompson; One Granddaughter/Daughter:  Gloria F. Thompson.

She leaves to cherish her memories:  one daughter: Dessie T. Ford (Ernest) of Urbana, AR; Five Brothers:  Frank L. Barnes of Urbana, AR; Jessie J.
