Mr. Hawkins accepted Christ at an early age at Campground A.M.E. Later; he joined Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church of Farmerville, Louisiana. He was raised in the community of Cooterville in Crossett, Arkansas.
Willie Hawkins was a hard worker. During his career, he worked for Diamond Chrysler, Georgia Pacific, Mannville Plywood, Ensco, and Clean Harbor. Willie Hawkins was a great provider for his children and family; Willie had a passion for fishing and being outdoors. He won the Felsenthal Bream Festival for several years. People came from near and far to fish with him. He could navigate through the waters of the Ouachita River and Georgia Pacific Lake with his eyes closed. He always knew where to find the Big Fish. He was very athletic as well. He could hit a softball from Huttig Park to 14th Street with ease. He had a love for music. He was a DJ in his younger days. During those DJ days, he was known as "Hawk's Traveling Disco." He was always friendly and never met a stranger. His gardening skills were impeccable. He provided the community with fruits and vegetables for years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William Hubbard Hawkins & Mary Hawkins Simmons, and three siblings.
He leaves to cherish four daughters, Ladeanna Johnson (Eddie) of Strong, Arkansas, Sonya Hawkins-Ingram (Mose) of Duncanville, Texas, Kenya Garrett (Derrick) of Huttig, Arkansas and Endia Holley of Huttig, One son, Edward Smith (Jesenia) of Russellville, Arkansas, and Three brothers, Eddie Hawkins (Annette) of Crossett, Arkansas, Johnny Hawkins (Kay) of Houston, Texas, Darryl Hawkins (Tonya) of McKinney, Texas.
