Vernon Jackson

Vernon Jackson was born on April 1, 1949, in Lillie, Louisiana, to the late Johnny B. Jackson and Mildred Jackson.

He attended Fairview Elementary School and graduated from Washington High School. During his school years, Vernon played football and basketball and also played softball for the Three Creeks Cats.

Vernon joined the United States Army in 1971 and proudly served his country as a Vietnam veteran and Staff Sergeant. He was also a 32nd Degree Master Mason with the Pride of Junction City Lodge #125 and a Shriner of Imperial Grand Council Ku Wat #7 Temple in Grambling, Louisiana.

Vernon was employed with Ark-La-Gas Company for 24½ years until his retirement. He was a devoted fan of the Grambling State Tigers and the Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed traveling, attending concerts and cookouts, and playing dominoes.

At an early age, Vernon united with Freewill Missionary Baptist Church. He later joined El Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as a deacon, Sunday School superintendent, usher, Brotherhood teacher, and choir member. Vernon loved his church and the Three Creeks community.

On May 26, 2001, Vernon married the love of his life, Ruby Jackson.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny B. Jackson and Mildred Jackson; his son, Vernon De'Angelo Jackson, Jr.; his three sisters, Mildred Jackson, Mattie Raybon, and Geraldine Stanley; and his three brothers, Larry Jackson, John L. Jackson, and Willie Louis Jackson.

His precious memories will forever be cherished by his loving wife, Ruby Jackson of Three Creeks, Arkansas; his three children, Randy Gill and Linda Gill, and his bonus daughter, Dej Moore; his four sisters, Lena Nelson of Three Creeks, Arkansas, Ruby Modica of Red Oak, Texas, Shirley Anderson and Shirley Marie Jackson, both of Little Rock, Arkansas; his 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Vernon will be remembered for his faith, service to his country, devotion to his church and community, and love for his family. His life and legacy will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
