Travis Lavell Schultz Jr. was born on February 29, 1956, in El Dorado, Arkansas. He passed away on April 24, 2026, leaving behind a legacy marked by intelligence, humor, and a presence that could not be ignored. Known for being facetious, stern, and remarkably sharp-minded, Travis lived life with a style and spirit uniquely his own.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Bertrice Foster Carter; his father, Travis Berry Schultz; and his brother, Ricky Rothell Schultz.
Travis grew up in El Dorado, Arkansas, where he attended Washington High School and played basketball throughout his youth. His love for the game extended beyond the court as he later coached at the El Dorado Boys & Girls Club, shaping young players with the same discipline, passion, and occasional playful trash talk that came naturally to him.
As a young man, Travis set his sights on Detroit, the big city that would become his home and the backdrop for much of his life's work. In 1999, he began his career with MichCon as a Meter Reader. His strong work ethic and determination led him to become a Maintenance Gas Fitter in 2003 and later a General Fitter. He retired from DTE Energy with pride, having built a career defined by reliability and dedication.
Outside of work, Travis was a man of faith, community, competition, and culture. He was an exceptional domino player-the kind who didn't just win but made sure everyone knew he had won. He was a VIP member of the Blueroom and proudly served as a member of the El Dorado Chapter of the Searchers Club.
When it came to the blues, Travis didn't just listen to it-he lived it. If Johnnie Taylor, Bobby "Blue" Bland, B.B. King, or Bobby Rush was performing, Travis was already in the building, soaking in every note.
He leaves to cherish his memory his four children: LaKeshia Hall (Tracy), Tracey Schultz, Travis "Sharod" Schultz, and Lilliepearl Schultz; eight beloved grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family members and friends who will forever remember his humor, strength, and the unmistakable energy he brought into every room.
Travis lived boldly, loved deeply, and left an imprint that will continue to echo through the stories shared and the memories held close.
The family of Travis Lavell Schultz Jr. extends its deepest gratitude to the dedicated staff of Timberlane Rehabilitation Facility for their care and compassion. A heartfelt thank-you is also extended to Lifetouch Hospice for the support, comfort, and kindness shown during his transition.
We are profoundly grateful to all family members and friends who visited, called, prayed, and offered their love and support. Your presence and encouragement provided strength during a difficult time, and your kindness will never be forgotten.
