Sula "Nanny" Lee Carson

November 28, 1939 — May 8, 2019

Rocity and Jonah Candley were the proud parents of 12 wonderful children, even though their house was full, their hearts were not. So on November 28th 1939 the Angels got together and decided to create a dream come true, giving them Lucky #13, a beautiful baby girl they named Sula.  Later nicknamed by her grandchildren “Big Nanny”

Sula received her primary and secondary education in Whites, Arkansas and of course she was an Honor Roll student, later advancing her studies by receiving her Nursing Degree at Oil Belt Vocational School, and was employed at Oak Ridge Nursing Home.

She met and married the love of her life Tim Carson on March 13th 1954; to this union they added 8 extraordinary children.

She was baptized at an early age in Crossett, AR, Later joining First Saint James M.B.C. under the leadership of L.D. Champion where she held the position of Church Clerk and Usher until her relocation to Richmond, California uniting with Greater ST. Paul M.B.C. serving in the capacity of Church Mother, and 1/3 of the Golden Girls until God called her home.

Nanny’s most enjoyable moments were spending time with her Children; Grands; Great Grands & Great-Great Grands often saying “I’m blessed”  She loved Cooking, shopping, word search puzzles, and telling her kids to be quiet (Because she couldn’t hear everyone talk at the same time and she needed to hear everyone)

She was Mom & Nanny to many, while raising her Grandkids Jewelldari Mayweather, and Veronica Parker.

Sula was preceded in death by her parents Jonah & Rocity  Candley, Son Larry Carson, Grandsons Jamario Washington, Jewell Mayweather, Kenji Jones, Christopher Parker, Siblings; (6) brothers J.M, L.V, Dennis, Warner, Johnny, Elgin Candley, (4) sisters Girdy Ross, Panky Candley, Ruby Roberson, Earlean Hawkin,

Her life will forever be cherished by her children.  Rose Ewing (Marlin) of El Dorado, AR, Carolyn Carson, Patsy Carson (Fred) and James Carson of Richmond CA, Bobby Carson (Mashackie), Sonia Clark (Ronald) of Vallejo, CA, Delores Burton (Charles) Las Vegas, NV, (2) Sisters Nobie Lovett of El Dorado, AR, Betty Andrews of Crossett, AR, (1) brother Willie Earl Candley of Tacoma Washington, (20) grandchildren (39) great-grands, (6) Great-great grands (1) sister-in- law Nellie Parker and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  If you knew Nanny you loved her; and she loved you.
