Sammie Miles

October 16, 1938 — December 15, 2018

Sammie Lee Miles was born in El Dorado, AR on October 16, 1938 to the parents of late Horace Miles, Sr. and Robbie Henry-Miles.  He departed this earth on December 15, 2018 in Hot Springs, AR.  Sammie grew up in church and accepted Christ at an early age.   He attended the Parkers Chapel School District located in El Dorado, AR and worked for multiple employers in the area such as Ritchie’s Grocery, Medical Center of South Arkansas, Cook’s Body Shop, and Mac’s Meat Market.

Sammie was married to Joyce Spivey for ten years and to that union, seven children were born.  He was an avid lover of high school football and loved to attend the Friday night games to watch the El Dorado Wildcats play.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his daughter, LaTonya, and his granddog, Jack.  He also enjoyed precious time with his great grandchildren as he would often babysit and watch over them. 

He was preceded in death by his parents:  Horace Miles Sr. and Robbie Henry-Miles; brothers:  Jesse Miles Sr., Horace Miles Jr., sisters:  Eva Miles-McGuire and Christine Miles-Kennedy, and granddaughter LaVechia Franklyn

He leaves to cherish his memories:  sons:  Rickie Miles (Liz), Russell Miles (Kimberly), Chris Miles (Angie) of El Dorado, AR and Michael Williams of Little Rock, AR; daughters: Dorris Ward (Harold), Debra Butler (Lawrence), Jackie Curley (Kevin), and LaTonya Miles of El Dorado, AR, a special granddaughter: Sanjuna Aaron, thirteen grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.  Brothers:  Howard “Man T” Miles; sisters:  Ann Miles-Brown (Charles), and Sylestene Miles-Clark.

Public visitation will be Friday, December 21, 2018 from 12-5pm at Sims Mortuary. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 22, 2018- 11:00 a.m. at New Eastside Baptist Church, 1316 N. Martin Luther King Blvd., El Dorado, AR  71730 with Rev. Anthony Traylor- Pastor. Interment will be at Arlington Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Sims Mortuary.

Active Pallbearers will be Earnestine Turner, Travis Turner, Earl Green, Dennis Spivey, Jeremy Kennedy and Michael Miles. Honorary pallbearers will be Curtis Clark, Jonte Robertson, Rickey Miles, Chris Miles, Kenyatta Miles and Russell Miles.
