Nathan Rainey

December 21, 1951 — March 15, 2026

Nathan Rainey was born on December 21, 1951, at Warner Brown Hospital to Jerry D. Rainey and Magdalene Shears-Rainey.

Nathan was very active as a young child, always climbing and beating on furniture. During his school days, he played in the band at Washington High School and was a member of the Hornet football team as a center in both junior high and on the varsity squad. Nathan was known for holding the line so well that he earned the nickname "Gator" or "Rock." While in high school, he was also a member of FBLA.

He was involved in the Boy Scouts at First Baptist Church under Bro. Earnest Young, where he earned his Order of the Arrow.

Nathan accepted Christ at a young age under Pastor T.P. Johnson at First Baptist Church. He later united with Greater Paradise under the leadership of Pastor E.A. Porchia. Nathan was a faithful member of the men's Sunday School class, "Brothers in Christ," and served as a trustee.

Nathan remained faithful in church until his health began to decline. He always encouraged his family to know and accept Christ.

He was married to Mary Evelyn Sams-Carroll and had three children. Nathan believed in giving his best effort in everything he did.

Nathan was preceded in death by his grandparents Sambo and Bobbie Lee Rainey, Girtnia Phillips, and Dock Shears. Mother Magdalene Shears-Harris, Father
