Maxine Lowery

Maxine Smith Lowery was born January 7, 1943, to the late Oscar Smith Sr and Ruby Strickland Smith in Mt Holly, Arkansas. After the death of Maxine biological mother, Ruby, Oscar married Alvie Young. Oscar and Alvie became a blended family. He brought his eight children into the relationship and Alvie brought three. Maxine was the youngest.

Maxine accepted Jesus as her personal Savior at an early age whereas she joined Damascus Baptist Church in Mt. Holly, Arkansas. She later joined First St James Baptist Church under the leadership of Talmage Dunwood. After Reverend Dunwood tenure, she remained a faithful member under the leadership of Roy C. Aaron Jr until her health declined.

November 1970, she married Wesley Turner Jr and became stepmother to his children: Lajuanda Richardson, Marilyn McMurrian, Cynthia Betters, and Connie Turner who remained loving and devoted to her.

September 12, 1988, she married Clifton Lowery Sr. and received his sons Clifton Lowery Jr and Earnest Ethridge-Lowery as her own. Maxine and Clifton were married for 31 years and remained married until his death in May 2020.

In 2002 Oyama, Cynthia, and Amyiah Williams became godchildren to Maxine and Clifton who brought joy and laughter to their lives.

September 2020 Mack Nunn became her caregiver and cared for her 2 years.

Maxine was passionate about sewing, baking, cooking, camping. She loved to bake and cook for others. She cooked and would invite many to her table. Clifton introduced her to the camping life and she fell in love with her Lake Village Family. She met a lady by the name of Martha Hays, and they became the best of friends.

She was called by God on July 3, 2025, in the presence of her nieces, stepdaughter and goddaughters at South Arkansas Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Ruby Smith, Alvie Young Smith; Three brothers, Oscar Smith Jr., Willie Lee Smith, Tom Henry Smith; Two sisters, Katherine McAdoo, Hattie Pearl Harris and Three bonus siblings, Leroy Thomas, Levi Thomas Sr., and Allean Thomas Gray.

She leaves her cherished memories to her bonus sons, Clifton Lowery Jr. of Henderson, Nevada; Ernest Ethridge Lowery (Sheila) of Cedar Hill, Texas; sister, Helen Joyce Calloway of San Antonio, Texas and a brother Jimmy Lee Smith Sr. of El Dorado, Arkansas; her brother in-laws Cecil Lowery (Edna) of Garland, Tx, George Lowery (Barbara) of El Dorado, Ar, sister in laws Patricia Winston of Little Rock, AR. Bonus daughters; Lajuanda Richardson (Manuel) of Livermore, CA; Marilyn McMurrian (Frankin) of Lathrop, CA; Cynthia Betters of El Dorado, Arkansas; Connie Turner (Parnell) of Nashville, Tennessee; God Children Oyama, Cynthia, and Amyiah Williams all of El Dorado, AR. Special cousins Mae White and Annie Faye Brown both of El Dorado; And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
