Lula Mae Brown, the beloved and devoted daughter of O.L Brown and Lillie Mae Brown Harper was born January 5, 1955 in El Dorado, Ar. Her mother and father who by example, taught Christian values and integrity. At a young age she united with Little Bethel Baptist Church in El Dorado, AR under the leadership of Rev Leon Miller Jr. Later in life she united with St. James Baptist Church in El Dorado AR, under the leadership of Bishop George Calloway. She also would worship with the First St. James Baptist, Church Rev. Roy Aaron in El Dorado, AR up until she moved to Little Rock, Ar and would always visit with them whenever she was home.
On January 1, 1979, she married Norris Lee Ford and to this union three children were born, Keith, Nakaca, and Akeem.
Lula was a 1973 graduate of El Dorado High School. She often spoke of how she had dreams of going in army but chose a different path. Lula, worked as Certified Nurse Assistant for Warner Brown Hospital for many years, she loved caring for people. Later she became employed with Stage and remained dedicated there several years until she became employed with Goodwill, as she remained there until being challenged with health issues.
Lula was the name given at birth, but she was also a mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend. She displayed a heart of compassion, honesty, humbleness, some even called her the “life of the party” and the “dancing machine.” She was known as “Diva Lu” because she was such a stylist and well kept. She loved and enjoyed her family and friends and her infectious smile and laughter would light up the room.
On July 27, 2019 she transitioned from this earthly life at Lifetouch Hospice In El Dorado Ar. She was preceded in death by her father and sister O.L Brown and Lillie Green. Her maternal and paternal grandparents Willie Brown, Girthie Neal Brown, Booker Harper, and Irene Harper. A nephew Comesico Tremayne Brown.
Survivors include her children Keith Ford, Nakaca Ford (Crystal), both of Mansfield TX, Akeem Ford, El Dorado AR. Grandchildren Kyair Ford of Indianapolis Indiana, Ashton Ford of Mansfield TX, Treyshawn Ford of Little Rock AR, London Ford of Mansfield, TX and Payton Ford of El Dorado AR and two great grandchildren of Indianapolis, Indiana. Her mother Lillie Mae Harper Brown of El Dorado, Ar. Her sisters Cynthia Pumphrey, Vertie Mayweather (John), Mary Mayweather, Angela Williams (Sankeno), Lavonya Brown, and Nakeysha Brown all El Dorado, AR, Vera Frazier of Camden, AR. Her brothers O.L Brown of Richfield Minnesota, James Brown of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Henry Brown (Kristy) of Wydeena Minnesota, Willie Brown of Hot Spring, AR. A host of nieces and nephews who were just like her own children. Friends who she adored dearly and will miss her vibrant, cheerful and goofy personality.
Public Visitation 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Thursday August 1, 2019 at Sims Mortuary. Funeral services 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2019 at First St. James Baptist Church.
