Leonard Wainwright

August 10, 1949 — December 16, 2022

On August 10, 1949 Leonard Wainwright was born the son of the late Melvin and Louise Wainwright in El Dorado, Arkansas. He was one of five children.

Leonard, or Billy as he was known to some, lived his life in El Dorado. He was well respected and thought of as a kind and caring man. He married the late Mary Helen (Thompson) Wainwright and together they raised nine children, Sandy, Shelia, Alethea, Brittney, Shannon, Sheldon, Nah'Shun, Jeremy and Jermal.

He was a mechanic by trade with many of his employment years spent working at the Marks Ford Company car dealership in El Dorado. After semi-retiring from Marks Ford Company, he worked at Dixie Maintenance Services until deciding to fully retire.

In his early years, Leonard was an avid fisherman and hunter and in his later years he enjoyed working outdoors, keeping up with and discussing current events, and watching westerns and wrestling. He was not an outwardly social man, but was always ready to help a friend or lend a hand to those in need. He loved long in person conversations, but would end a phone call in five minutes or less. He was funny, sometimes stubborn and very shrewd. He lived a good life; he was loved, and he will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his wife and two of the nine children they raised, Shelia Creer and Brittney Bernard; three siblings: Larry Wainwright, Cheelar Wainwright, Clyde Wainwright; and his parents.

He will live on in the memories of: Charles Wainwright (brother); Sandy Lovett and her family (Donald, Elizébeth and Aundrea); Alethea McHenry; Brittney's son Jayden Mosley, Shannon Modica, Sheldon Modica and his son (Payton); Nah'Shun McHenry and his wife and son (Jordan and David); Jeremy Boone, Jermal Boone, dear friends Maryann and Hugh Melton, and a host of extended family and friends.

Due to the circulation of the current infectious viruses, the family will not be hosting a family hour or a repast. In lieu of these activities, the family asks that you make a donation to the food pantry of the First Presbyterian Church of El Dorado at
