"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness". 2 Timothy 4:7-8
Laura Mae Brown was born on December 8, 1923, in Summerfield, Louisiana, to Sarah Randolph and Claude Brown. At an early age, she united with Mt. Sinai CME Church in Summerfield. After relocating to El Dorado, she became a devoted member of St. Vestal CME Church, where she served faithfully on the Stewardess Board for many years. In time, she stepped back from her duties, becoming affectionately known as the "Mother of the Board"-a cherished role model and guiding light for others.
A woman of deep faith, Laura loved the Lord and was blessed with three daughters. She was a dedicated homemaker, widely known for her exceptional cooking, baking, and hairdressing. Her passion for these arts lives on through her daughters and granddaughters.
She often spoke about not living long enough to witness certain milestones, yet she surpassed many of them with grace, resilience, and humor. On Sunday, April 27, 2025, Laura transitioned peacefully in her sleep at home.
Affectionately known as "Mock Mock" by a special group of her grandchildren-Trinity Caver, Brianna Caver, Vanquest Powell, Jordan Lee, and Stormi Bennett-Laura shared a unique and loving bond with each of them. The nickname, started by Trinity, quickly stuck and became a term of endearment that represented warmth, fun, and deep love. "Mock Mock" cherished spending time with them, playing games, sharing laughs, and ensuring they were always well-fed. One of her sweetest connections was with Stormi, with whom she shared a favorite treat-jello and ice cream.
Laura enjoyed word search puzzles, court shows, CNN, and quality time with her family. She was especially fond of Judge Judy and many others, often giving the participants advice with comical commentary. One of her most treasured daily rituals was her 6 p.m. phone call with her nephew, John Hay-so dependable that if he was even five minutes late, she was ready to send out a search party.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Claude Brown Jr., Roy Brown, and Forrest Brown, and her sisters Maedell Lowery and Leola Brown.
Laura's legacy continues through her daughters-Virginia Powell, Mary Brown, and Jeanette Brown, all of El Dorado; four grandchildren-Victor Powell, Vincent Powell (Terrie), Vance Powell, and April Brown; her god-grandchild, Morgan Williams; her bonus daughter, Lynn Williams; eight great-grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and family who all loved her dearly.
Her life was one of love, faith, and strength-a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
