Hamp R. Stokes Sr was born on March 8, 1941, in Norphlet, Arkansas, to Benjamin (Ben) and Ollie V. Stokes. He was the youngest of six children. He married Gwendolyn Lucille Ford, and to this union, three sons (Hamp Jr., John, and Anthony) were born.
Hamp moved to Los Angeles, CA, in the late 1960s and returned to Norphlet, AR, in the early 1970s, where he worked and retired from El Dorado Golf and Country Club.
While living in California, he converted to the Islamic faith and took the name Mohamed Humidallah. He would wake up every morning before dawn to pray; he always gave words of faith and encouragement. He had such a good heart and was the epitome of kindness and generosity. He gave unselfishly to others and missed no opportunity to impart words of wisdom to his friends and family. He enjoyed life to the fullest. Fishing was his passion, and he loved driving and traveling to California and Las Vegas to spend time with his siblings. He enjoyed driving his red, five-speed Chevy truck. We are thankful that there are so many memories that will forever be engraved on our hearts.
He was preceded in death by both parents and two brothers, Stoney Stokes (Los Angeles, CA) and Julius Stokes (Las Vegas, NV).
Hamp leaves to cherish his loving memory two sisters, Ollie Fay Stokes (CA) and Alice Patten-Burns (CA); 1 brother, Benjamin (Ben) Stokes Jr.; 3 sons, Hamp R. Stokes Jr. (Gwendolyn) in (Little Rock, AR), John F. Stokes (Sondra) in (Little Rock, AR), Anthony B. Stokes (Cassondra) in (Maumelle, AR); 4 grandchildren, Anthony B.
