Dr. Claudis Ray Allen

Dr. Claudis Ray Allen was born on March 29, 1947, in El Dorado, Arkansas, to the late Aaron and Fannie Mae Allen. He peacefully departed this life on July 22, 2026, at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. As we celebrate his life, we honor his parents for providing him with a solid Christian foundation rooted in love, faith, and the importance of family. Claudis accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and became a member of First Baptist Church in El Dorado, Arkansas.

Shaping a Future

Claudis attended Carver Elementary School and grew up in the "St. Louis" neighborhood of El Dorado, where he shared many happy childhood memories with his brothers. Together, they demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit by managing an early morning newspaper route, faithfully accompanied by their loyal dog, Joe.

Music also played an important role in the Allen family. Each of the brothers learned to play a musical instrument and proudly participated in the high school band.

Claudis graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1964 before enrolling at Arkansas Agricultural, Mechanical & Normal College (now the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff), where he continued his passion for music as a member of the band. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1968 and began his distinguished career in education with his first teaching position in Stamps, Arkansas.

Destined for Greatness

Teaching was more than a profession for Claudis-it was his calling. His dedication and excellence in the classroom quickly gained recognition, leading to an opportunity to relocate to Texas to continue his career in education.

Committed to lifelong learning, Claudis earned a Master of Music Education from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas, in 1973. He later earned his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Administrative Leadership from North Texas State University in 1988.

Throughout his career, Dr. Allen positively influenced countless teachers, staff members, and students. He served in several Dallas-area schools, including George W. Truett Elementary School, Zumwalt Elementary School, Onesimo Hernandez Elementary School, Marcus and Peabody Elementary Schools, where he served as Assistant Principal, and Rufus C. Burleson Elementary School, where he served as Principal.

Teachers described him as warm, understanding, supportive, cheerful, compassionate, and deeply respected. Students loved him for his genuine concern and wonderful sense of humor.

His impact was so profound that W. W. Bushman Elementary School honored him with Dr. Claudis Allen Appreciation Day. During the celebration, students expressed their gratitude through special musical presentations, including What a Difference You Made in My Life and You Light Up Our School, reflecting the tremendous influence he had on their lives.

Leadership in Education

In 1987, Claudis joined his brother, Dr. Sherwin Allen, in establishing Children First Elementary Academy Charter School in Houston and Dallas. Sherwin served as Superintendent of the Houston campus, while Dr. Claudis Allen served as Assistant Superintendent of the Dallas campus. Together, they remained committed to providing students with an exceptional educational foundation while inspiring teachers and administrators to pursue excellence.

Dr. Claudis Allen leaves to cherish his memory his devoted sister, Dr. Debra Allen of Pembroke Pines, Florida; a host of loving nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members, former colleagues, students, and dear friends who will forever treasure his legacy. He will also be greatly missed by his Washington High School classmates and his fraternity brothers of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Aaron and Fannie Mae Allen; his sisters, Olean Williams of El Dorado, Arkansas, Mary Joyce Solden (Glenwood) of El Dorado, Arkansas, Shirley L. Briggs of Nashville, Tennessee, Jessie Walker (Rodell) of Houston, Texas, and Ruby Green (Robert) of El Dorado, Arkansas; and his brothers, Donald Allen and Dr. Sherwin Allen. Though they entered eternal rest on the same day, their memories and legacies will never be forgotten.

Dr. Claudis Ray Allen devoted his life to God's purpose, education, and the development of others. His classrooms became places of hope, his schools became communities of encouragement, and his leadership inspired generations of educators and students alike. Though his earthly journey has ended, the seeds he planted through faith, wisdom, compassion, and service will continue to bear fruit for generations to come. His legacy lives on in every life he touched.
