Arthur Winright

April 5, 1919 — February 1, 2022

"I fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which is the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing" 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Arthur Winright, at the age of 102, departed Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at John McClelland Memorial Veteran's Hospital, in Little Rock, Arkansas. The son of Noah and Mollie Johnson Winright, born April 5, 1919, in Strong, Arkansas.

Arthur was baptized and accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age. He united with the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church and remained a devoted and faithful member until his health failed.

His early education began at Gill Elementary School in Strong, Arkansas. He continued to study in the Gardner School District.

He united in holy matrimony to the late Virgie Mae Smith in 1944. To this union, five children were born, two girls and three boys.

A proud and decorated veteran of the United States Army, Arthur served during the World War II era and was recently awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct plaque. His picture has been hung on the wall of the VA hospital, and he received the Blanket of Honor at the VA Hospital for being the oldest member on the floor. It was a great honor to see the VA staff conducting the "Walk of Honor" at the passing of this great and loyal soldier.

Arthur Winright was a successful entrepreneur. He owned and operated a pulpwood truck business, and upon retirement, he continued to serve as a local contractor. Many will remember him as the "greens and smoke meat man."

His parents Noah and Mollie Winright; loving wife of 50 years, Virgie Mae Winright; daughter Marilyn Winright; granddaughter Te'Keshai Winright; two brothers, Sammie Greer Sr., Willie Vell Wainright; and five sisters, Myrtie Mae Loggins, Erma Oguinn, Essie Mae Winright, Annie Gardner, and Ceola Benton all proceeded him in death.

Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth White (Harold) of El Dorado, AR: sons Johnny Wainright (Lillie), Kenneth Winright (Marilyn) of El Dorado, AR, and Charles Winright of Strong. Seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren. A special nephew, Rex Greer, host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will always love and miss him.
