Emma Jean Ross

"To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven..." Ecclesiates 3:1 Emma Jean Ross was born on April 6, 1940 to the proud parents of O. W. and Rosie Rainey Walker in El Dorado, Arkansas. She was affectionately called Emma by her family and friends. She grew up in El Dorado, Arkansas and attended Booker T. Washington High School. Upon graduation, she attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. She joined the First Baptist Church at a very early age. She was a member of the choir and served along with the Circle Ruth, until her health began to fail. On July 21, 1963, Emma married David Cedric Ross and to this union one son was born, Cedric Fitzgerald. Emma was employed by the El Dorado School District as a Teacher's Aide for many years. She enjoyed spending her time sewing and cooking and she was a member of the Music Coterie Club. Emma was called to her heavenly home on Friday, August 27, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James Walker. She leaves to cherish her loving memories; her husband of 47 years, David Cedric Ross of El Dorado, Arkansas; one son, Cedric Fitzgerald Ross of Dallas, Texas; sisters-in-laws Ruth Walker of Dallas, Texas, Mary Dismuke, Edna Ross of Spearsville Louisiana and Catherine Thompson of El Dorado, Arkansas; one brother-in-law W. T. Ross of Detroit, Michigan; five grandchildren, Brandon, Shemeka, Jonte, Janee and G'Coby; four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. A Homegoing Celebration for Emma will be held on Friday, September 3, 2010 at 11:00a.m. at First Baptist Church-Cordell, El Dorado, Arkansas with Rev. Pierce Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Arlington Memorial Gardens, El Dorado, Arkansas under the direction of the Sims Mortuary Staff.
