Janice Jackson-Martin Davis

February 21, 1948 — December 4, 2009

"For we brought nothing into this world and it is certain we can carry nothing out." I Timothy 6:7 Janice Jackson Martin-Davis was born February 21, 1948 in El Dorado, Arkansas to the late A.J. Jackson Sr. and Freddie Harris Jackson. She departed this life December 4, 2009. Janice accepted Christ at the young age of ten and was baptized at Mt. Calvary Baptist church by Rev. V.J.Johnson. She was always interested in God and she later joined Seventeenth Church of Christ Scientist in Chicago, Illinois. Janice had such a sense of love and joy in serving her Church. She served as a member of the Board of Directors for the last three years. The Board has the responsibility of taking care of all the Church business, including finances. She was chairman of the lecture committee with the responsibility of selecting speakers from around the world to come to Chicago to give messages of hope and healing to members of our church and the greater Chicago community. She was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Jointly Maintained Reading Room located in downtown Chicago. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, with responsibility for the kindergarten children. Janice has a special ability with the little ones, and they loved her. Jan's words, "There is no mystery in God, what he does is a science." Janice graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in the year of 1966 in the Top 10 of the class. She attended the University of Pine Bluff, whre she pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha in the year of 1967 that she proudly led the line. In 1971 she continued her education transferred to Southern Arkansas University of Magnolia where she graduated with honors obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. Once graduating she relocated to Chicago, Illinois where she worked for Union Bank as an accountant. While working in the job marked she realized that it was a hindrance to her dream to see the world. She walked out and became an Entrepreneur. Living her dream of traveling abroad she resided in locations such as London, England; Boston Massachusetts, Bombay, India, Frankfort, Germany and Honolulu, Hawaii. She was united in marriage to the late Will Martin in 1966 and to this union one child, Craig Jackson Martin was born and who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death is both parents, A. J. Jackson and Freddie Harris Jackson; one sister, Linda Jackson-Fisher; paternal grandparents, Sadie and Hoy Jackson; maternal grandparents Jewel and Lloyd Harris. She leaves to cherish her loving memories, A.J. Jackson, Jr. (Sherry) of San Francisco, California and Curtis Jackson(Elaine) of Honolulu, Hawaii; three sisters, Freddie Jackson Powell of Chicago, Illinois, Vera Jackson-Gordon of Little Rock, Arkansas and Carolyn Jackson-Haslerig of El Dorado, Arkansas; three grandsons, Geoffrey Martin and Dorian Martin both of Chicago, Illinois and Shelby "AJ" Martin, one granddaughter, Mahogany Martin all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; one great-granddaughter, Asha Lewis of Los Angeles, California; a host of family and friends. A Memorial Service for Janice will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. at the Sims Mortuary Chapel, El Dorado, Arkansas. She was cremated.
