"The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want..."Psalms 23 A TIME TO BE BORN Sis. Velma Davis was born March 23, 1918 in Summerfield, Louisiana. She was the daughter of Otha and Lizzie Kennedy George. A TIME TO BE GROW At an early age, Velma accepted the Lord as her personal Savior. She united with St. James Methodist Church in Urbana, Arkansas where she served faithfully until her health began to decline. Velma worked as a pressor for many years. A TIME TO MOURN On December 4, 2009, Velma was called to eternity. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wilson Davis, two sons and five brothers. Velma, fondly known as "Momma Velma" was a very loving and kind woman to all that she met. She always had a smile and could make you laugh. She was a woman who truly loved God. Her unconditional love for her family was truly exhibited by her nurturing insticts, unyielding love and compassionate heart. She leaves to cherish her loving memories, three brothers, J.D. George(Florine) of El Dorado, Arkansas, Jessie George(Georgia Ann) of Stockton, California and A.D. George(Exola)of St. Louis, Missouri, one sister, Mary Pumphrey of El Dorado, Arkansas; a special grandson and his wife, Herman and Sherry Levingston of Urbana, Arkansas; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends who loved her and will miss her tremendously. A Homegoing Celebration for Momma Velma will be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, El Dorado, Arkansas with Rev. Wylie George officiating. Interment will follow in the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Norphlet, Arkansas under the direction of the Sims Mortuary Staff. Visitation at the funeral home will be on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 from 9:00am to 5:00pm and Wednesday, December 9, from 8:30-9:30am. The family will receive friends at the home of Herman and Sherry Levingston, 1891 Mt. Zion Road, Urbana, Arkansas.
