Arguster James, Sr.

October 4, 1932 — February 20, 2018

Brother Arguster James, Sr. was born October 4, 1932 to John James and Estella George James in the Mt. Sinai Community in Summerfield, LA. At an early age he confessed hope in Christ and joined the Mt. Sinai C.M.E. Church, Summerfield, Louisiana, and was a loyal and faithful member until he moved to Arkansas. Later, he united with the First Baptist Church, Cordell under the leadership of Dr. E. A. Porchia. On May 19, 1958, He was united in Holy Matrimony to Sis. Beatrice Phillips and to this union five children were born. He was the oldest active member of the El Dorado Lodge of No. 151 M.W. Prince Hall Grand Lodge F. & A.M of Arkansas. He departed this life at the age of 85 years on Tuesday Morning, February 20, 2018 at Timberland Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, nine siblings and two sons, Richard Earl James and Alonzo James. He is survived by his wife; Sis Beatrice James, four sons; Arguster James Jr. Little Rock, AR, Jeffery James and Alfonzo James, El Dorado, AR and Jerry Dorton of Sacramento, CA. Three daughters: Glenda R. James, Little Rock, AR, Wanda Faye James and Sandra (Keith) Holden. El Dorado, AR. One brother Joseph C. James, SR, Shreveport, LA., and one sister Laylus Radford, Springhill, LA. 16 grand children, 26 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, a special niece Pam Radford, and a host of other relatives and friends. Public visitation will be on Friday, February 23, 2018 from 12 noon until 4:30 p.m. with the family hour from 6-7 p.m. at Sims Mortuary. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church Cordell with Rev. Pierce Moore, eulogist.
