Cloyd Nation Sr.

January 18, 1935 — October 28, 2017

On January 18, 1935, Cloyd Nation Sr. was born in Coloston, LA to John and Zillie Nation. He obeyed the gospel at the age of 12 years old, later the family moved to El Dorado, AR. There was no building so they worshipped at the home of the Nations and the other family. Brother Nation attended the Nashville Christian Institute under the leadership of his mentor Brother Marshal Keeble. In 1969 he became the Pastor at Westside Church of Christ in Waldo, AR. While serving there he baptized and married many. He has preached the gospel and baptized all over Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. He was a heavy equipment operator for 50 years working at El Dorado Water Utilities, and the City of El Dorado, retiring after an injury. He had a love for outdoors, hunting, fishing, and horses. He was known as Nation Buster during his years playing softball. Affectionately known as “PAW”, he was preceded in death by his parents John and Zellie Nation, son Cloyd Nation Jr., two brothers Willie C and Robert L. Nation; three sisters Leona Ritter, Mary Sue Owens, Maedell Clark. He leaves to cherish his memories wife, Lois Nation; two sons, Roderick Nation of Malvern, AR and Wayne Nation of West Memphis, AR; five daughters, Phillis Young (Josephus), Rita Davis (Fred), Angela Nation, Betty Gill (Jerry), Rose Gray (Vern), an adopted son, Keeyon Nation (Lacey); two sisters, Jerrie Hill, and Mordell Allen of Cedar Creek, TX; one brother, Jimmy Nation of Clovis, New Mexico; brother-in-law, Willie Tanner; 24 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and a special niece, Janice Owens of Peoria, IL; very close friends, Jessie Frazier, Sandra Caldwell, Darelene Lett, Alvin Pete, and Gary Hillard. Visitation will be Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 2:00 pm -5:00 pm at Sims Mortuary. Funeral services will be at 2:00pm on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Plum Street Church of Christ with Bro. Jeffres Jefferson, Eulogist. Interment will be at Lott Burgy Cemetery under the direction of Sims Mortuary.
