Velma Ruth Kendrix Blanchard was born February 16, 1942. She was a long time member of Mt. Caramel Baptist Church. She passed on October 3, 2017 in Little Rock. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe Blanchard; five sisters, Lorene Green, Emma Logan, Mary Windbird, Clara Mae Johnson, and Fannie Mae Benton; three brothers, Waymon Kendrix, Alford Kendrix and Edward Kendrix. Velma leaves to cherish her loving memories: three sons, Earnest Chambliss, James Earl Traylor (Mary) and Ivory Purifoy; four adopted sons; Hernando Traylor, Martin Benton, Johnny Benton and Charles Ray Benton; five adopted daughters; Diane Stewart (Douglas), Linda Benton, Jeanette Smith (McArthur), Jimmy Ann Benton and Carolyn Ann Caldwell (John); three sisters, Rene Westbrook, Linnie B. Barnes of Urbana, Arkansas, and Corene Rogers of Strong, Arkansas. She also leaves seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a host of relatives and friends. Family hour will be from 5-7 pm on Friday, October 13, 2017 at Sims Mortuary. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Mt. Zion #2 Missionary Baptist Church in Urbana, Arkansas with Rev. W. T. Ward, eulogist. Interment in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Urbana, under the direction of Sims Mortuary.
