Ollie V. Terry was born Sunday, December 15, 1929 in Mount Holly, Arkansas to the union of Mattie Eutsey Arberry and George Arberry. She was baptized at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in El Dorado, Arkansas, and attended there faithfully until she relocated to Detroit, Michigan, where she joined with the Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. In her latter years, she attended Theresa Hoover United Methodist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. Ms. Terry was a strong, loving, independent matriarch who dedicated her life to protecting and caring for her family. She generously shared her time and showed her love for others through storytelling, cooking, and engaging in fun times. Some of her favorite pastimes were shopping, traveling, taking walks, and playing dominoes. She is remembered by her friends and family as adventurous and hardworking. She was an overcomer who embraced her life’s journey, always happy to impart her life’s lessons. Ms. Terry passed on Friday, September 15, 2017 in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was 87 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Minnie B., Eunice, and Julie; four brothers, Timothy, Robert Lee, Lonell, and Jamerson; three adult children Victor Smith, Pearl Wilkerson, and Patricia Terry; and two infant children, James and “Allison”. She is survived by five children: Rosemary Allen (Atlanta); Lonnie Smith (Detroit); Barbara Johnson (Little Rock); Mary Washington (husband Leo) (Detroit), and Linda Terry (Little Rock). She was “Momma” to seventeen grandchildren and “Nanny” to thirty-nine great grandchildren and fourteen great-great grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn, her brother Hershey Lowery; sisters Jean McDaniel, Faye Finley, Mary Daniels, Shirley Myles, and Betty Brodie; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly. Public visitation will be from 12 noon until 5:00 p.m. at Sims Mortuary on Friday, September 22, 2017. Funeral Services will be at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. John Elliott, officiating. Pallbearers will be Greg Trotter, Mario Miller, LaRodrius Terry, Tristan Allen and Bernard Bragg. Interment at Community Cemetery in Junction City under the direction of Sims Mortuary.
