Gertie Mae Parks

Gertie Mae Parks, 82, of Strong, Arkansas departed this life on Friday, 19, 2017 at South Arkansas Regional Health Center in El Dorado, AR. She was born August 26, 1934 in Union County, Arkansas to the late Mr. Jim Mitchell and Mrs. Odessa Mitchell. She was the third of three children born to this union, all of whom preceded her in death. After graduating from high school, she made her home in Detroit, MI. While in Detroit, she met James Parks and they were united in holy matrimony on February 22, 1953. To this union one son was born. Gertie will be truly missed by her husband of 64 years, James Parks, Sr. of Strong, AR; one son, James (Monica) Parks, Jr. of St. Marcus, TX; two sister-in-law; Bertha Marsh and Marie Daniels of Detroit, MI; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other in-laws and friends. Public visitation will be Friday, May 26, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at Sims Mortuary. Services will be Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at Springhill Baptist Church in Oakland, Louisiana with Pastor Kenneth Harris, eulogist. Public viewing at 1:00p.m. Saturday one hour prior to service time. Interment will be at Springhill Cemetery under the directions of Sims Mortuary.
