Cubie Finley, Jr.

November 16, 1940 — April 4, 2006

Cubie Finley, Jr. was born on November 16, 1940 to Cubie, Sr. and Agnes Pierce Finley in El Dorado, Arkansas. He was the eldest child born to this union. He was affectionately called "Sonny Man" by his family and friends. Cubie, Jr. was educated in the El Dorado Public School System. He graduated from Washington High School. Cubie had a thirst for knowledge that was never quenched. He continued to take courses at Southern Arkansas Community College as well as Oil Belt Vocational School. He received many honors, certificates and degrees. He was wed to Maxine Johnson on September 6, 1958. To this union, three children were born: Althea Belinda, Alicia Marie and Cubie, III. Soon thereafter, Cubie left El Dorado to begin a career in the United States Armed Forces. Cubie received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for his action in combat while in Vietnam. While in the U. S. Army he also furthered his education by attending the Academy of Health Science, where he received his Masters Degree in Pathology. In addition he was a Registered Nurse and an Electrician. He received an honorable discharge from the U. S. Army in 1981. After retirement, Cubie, Jr. returned to El Dorado and was dedicated to the care of his beloved Mother, Mrs. Agnes Finley. his favorite hobby and pastime was reading. Mr. Finley was known around town as always wearing a towel around his neck. In 2005, Cubie, Jr. reunited with his lifelong church Douglas Baptist Church, where he remained faithful until his death. On April 4, 2006, the Lord called Cubie, Jr. from labor to reward. He was preceded in death by his father, Cubie Finley, Sr. and a sister, Dorothy Washington. He leaves to cherish his memories and life: his wife of 48 years, Maxine Finley; one son, Cubie III, three daughters, Althea Finley of Sacramento, CA, Alicia Anderson(Kevin) of Oahu, HI and Betty Sue Lee of El Dorado, AR; Six grandchildren; His beloved mother, Agnes Finley of El Dorado, AR; three brothers, Charles Finley(Barbara Joe) of Mineral Springs, AR, Leonard Finley(Myra), Robert Finley(Pat) both of El Dorado, AR; eight sisters, Ollie Faye Finley of El Dorado, AR, Artie Mary Thompson(CW) of Gary, IN, Joanne Montgomery, Jeanette Kilgore, Emma Carey(Bobby), Carolyn Evans(James), Doris Finley all reside in El Dorado, Gwendolyn Jones of Little Rock, AR. He leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and his church family to remember his legacy. Homegoing Services for Mr. Finley will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Douglas Baptist Church, El Dorado, AR. Interment will follow in the Zion Watts Cemetery under the direction of The Sims Mortuary Staff. Visitation at the funeral home will be on Monday, April 10, 2006 from 9am-5pm.
