The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want." Psalms 23 Brother Jewel Crayton was born on July 23, 1929 in Mt. Holly, Arkansas. He was the son of Jim and Thenella Coleman Crayton. He joined the United States Army in1951. Jewel received two severe wounds fighting for his country during combat in the Korean War. After 53 years he received two purple hearts for bravery. Brother Jewel professed his faith at an early age and united with the Union A.M.E. Church in Mt. Holly, Arkansas. His parents, three brothers, Leonard Crayton, Lewis Crayton and O.B. Crayton, two sisters Janie Leslie and Hazel Richardson all preceded him in death. Jewel departed this phase of his life on August 6, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at Timberland Health and Rehabilitation Center. Those who will remember and cherish his memory are his wife Jerri Crayton of Smackover, Arkansas; one son Russell(Melissa) of Smackover, Arkansas; two daughters, Betty Jean(Andre)Ducan of Chicago, Illinois, Cassandra(Joseph)Hill of Dallas, Texas; one brother Frank Crayton of Las Vegas, Nevada; eleven grandchildren; two great- grandchildren and a host of nephews and neices. A Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Crayton will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Union A.M.E. Church, Mt. Holly, Arkansas with Elder Jimmy Dismuke officiating. Interment will follow in the Smead Cemetery, Mt. Holly, Arkansas under the direction of the Sims Mortuary Staff. Visitation at the funeral home will be Friday, September 14, 2012 from 10:00a.m. to 4:00p.m. and Saturday, September 15, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Family hour will be Friday, September 14, 2012 at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Jewell Crayton, please visit our flower store.
