Rosetta Johnson

January 27, 1931 — May 12, 2011

"The days of our lives are three score and ten; and if by reason of strength they be four score years, yet is their strength, labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away". Psalms 90:10 Sister Rosetta Johnson was born on January 27, 1931 to Hoy Williams and Ruthie Neal. She was united in marriage to Robert Johnson. No children were born to this union. She assisted in raising numerous children in the neighborhood and was called "Mama" by many of them. Rosetta was born in Calhoun County and went to live in Calion, Arkansas where she remained until conditions dictated that she move back. The people of Calion remained in her heart. Rosetta was a homemaker and an early on member of Long View Baptist Church where Reverend James Wright was her pastor. Later she joined Willow Grove Baptist Church which was closer to home. Both parents preceded her in death along with two sisters, Estella Pumphrey and Ruby Swiney. Her long time friend Bobbie Cole also preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband, Robert Johnson, and one brother, Jesse Finks of River Rouge, MI. She had a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. A Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Johnson will be held at Willow Grove Baptist Church, Calion, Arkansas on May 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Bishop Larry Hines officiating. Interment will follow in the Pickett Cemetery, Hampton, Arkansas. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Rosetta Johnson, please visit our flower store.
